The government has announced that a further 40 communities will benefit from its Pride in Place programme, expanding a national initiative focused on supporting locally-led improvements to neighbourhoods and high streets.
The 40 new neighbourhoods join the 244 already taking part, bringing the total to 284 communities across the UK where local people are deciding how investment is used in their area.
According to the official announcement, the programme is designed to let “local people take the lead”, giving residents, businesses and community organisations a greater role in shaping improvements in their own area.
Each location is supported to bring partners together, identify local priorities, and deliver changes that reflect the needs and character of their community.
The government has been clear that this approach is intended to ensure that decisions are driven by those closest to each place, with local people helping to shape how investment is used.
