Can Pride in Place partnerships build the capacity to deliver?

Can Pride in Place partnerships deliver? Sonia Cubrilo argues that they need to invest early in the people, skills and systems to do so.

Each Pride in Place area can receive up to £20 million over a decade. In a new article for IntoPlaces, Sonia Cubrilo asks whether local partnerships have the people, skills and systems they need to turn that investment into lasting change.

Drawing on discussions with Pride in Place chairs in Birkenhead, Sonia makes the case for investing in capacity early. That means giving chairs access to mentoring and independent advice, putting sound financial and delivery systems in place, and making sure residents and community organisations have the support to shape local priorities.

“Capacity must be seen as an investment, not an overhead.”

Sonia also suggests a practical step for every partnership: develop a capacity and capability plan alongside its delivery plan.
